That risk is that the acquiring company merely buys the innovative company to trawl it for assets, ideas and ROI, and doesn’t incorporate the innovation into its own activities or use it as an example to springboard innovative thinking elsewhere in the corporation. After a few years, the innovative ideas are trawled out, the innovative product has been offshored and the target company is just another cookie-cutter subsidiary, to be traded away or closed down, with any ongoing viable products transferred to other divisions through the acquisition of the necessary licences to manufacture/produce and their transfer to the parent.
