Lets do a quick Ecosystem Integration Reality Check:

Do you recgnize: Why Connection Now Defines Advantage?

Are your initiatives delivering all the value they could?

Lets recognise some of those Universal Signals Across Industries

Across energy, manufacturing, mobility, infrastructure, and so many more business sectors, the same signals keep repeating — familiar yet unresolved:

Initiatives multiply, but integration lags.
AI, digital, sustainability, and partnership programs grow rapidly yet rarely connect — competing for attention instead of compounding results.

Collaboration remains transactional, not reciprocal.
Shared value and co-creation are discussed more often than they’re designed.

Rigidity limits adaptability.
Legacy structures and siloed decision rights slow market response and delay the translation of opportunity into outcome.

The cost of isolation rises.
Each “transformation” competes for attention — draining focus, budgets, and belief. Fragmented initiatives quietly erode 20–40% of potential impact.

These are not capability gaps; they are connection gaps.

Across industries, leadership teams face a similar truth — the challenge isn’t invention but integration. The ability to connect existing programs, partnerships, and data systems determines both near-term performance and future adaptability.

The immediate opportunity lies in connecting what’s already moving — not starting anew.

Recognition Patterns from Industry Leaders

Research into leading ecosystem-focused organisations — Schneider Electric, John Deere, Alibaba, Salesforce, Siemens, and others — reveals recurring patterns:

Those who connect existing assets and partnerships accelerate adaptation.

Those who treat ecosystems as design, not projects, create sustained differentiation.

Those who shift from control to collaboration uncover new value spaces.

Each is shaping distinctive ecosystem models — open architectures, shared data systems, and co-innovation networks — signalling that the next advantage lies in integration.

The Shift Underway

Business boundaries are blurring fast.
Advantage is migrating from scale and control toward connection, orchestration, and shared capability.
This demands early adaptation to overcome rigidity and unlock reciprocal market opportunity.

The question is not if this shift will redefine your industry — but how ready your organisation is to act on it.

What if your business wasn’t the unit of growth anymore but it is the system you orchestrate or participate in?

A Bridge to Action– are you ready to cross it? Ecosystems are becoming a neccesity to understand and build out a different collaborative future.

The Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem (IIBE) blueprint provides a way to align what’s already in motion — linking existing initiatives, partnerships, and digital efforts into a cohesive operating logic.

It helps leadership teams:

Extract early returns from what’s already funded.

Build readiness for cross-boundary collaboration.

Reduce duplication and re-energise innovation momentum.

Regain coherence, speed, and confidence in execution.

Establish a sustaining ecosystem framework that integrates, not separates.

Out of interest:
Where might integration unlock your next 10% of impact — not next year, but now?

I’d welcome a short exchange on how the IIBE blueprint brings ecosystems to life today, not is some distant future.

The Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem (IIBE) Blueprint represents a major step forward in how organizations create, scale, and sustain collaborative advantage. It was designed for a world where no single company can respond fast enough, innovate broadly enough, or scale deeply enough on its own. The competitive unit is no longer the enterprise – it is the ecosystem it can orchestrate.

For years, businesses have pursued partnerships, alliances, platforms, accelerators, open innovation, and digital transformation. Yet much of it remains fragmented, incremental, or siloed. Internal experiments stay locked in “pilot mode”The IIBE Blueprint was created to solve this problem: a structured, systemic, and strategic architecture for ecosystem-led value creation that unlocks the thinking and designs you have today.

The Integrated Innovation Business Ecosystem (IIBE) Blueprint is a dynamic strategic framework that shows how organizations design, orchestrate, and scale business ecosystems for advantage. It provides a system-level view of how value flows across partners, customers, platforms, data, and capabilities—rather than within a single firm.

In one sentence:

The IIBE Blueprint is the operating logic that turns ecosystems from a theory or a partnership network into a repeatable, dynamic, scalable, value-creating business system.

What Makes It Distinctive

Why Now?

Markets are shifting faster than internal structures can absorb.

AI is accelerating every business model transition.

Sustainability, energy transition, mobility, healthcare, finance, public services – all require collaboration at scale.

No business will remain untouched- reality is the ability to collaborate, share and cocreate to overcome the overwhelming complexity that is being layered on one business. So we need to get off our “siloed islands” and learn to build new communities on the “ecosystem main land” to share complexity and build a more sustaining future.

The IIBE Blueprint brings a step-change.

It positions ecosystem orchestration as the strategic discipline of the 2020s—similar to how ERP defined enterprise integration and CRM defined customer management.

It is practitioner-driven, not academic.

It combines structure, diagnostics, tools, and implementation pathways.

AI is treated as an embedded force multiplier, not an optional add-on.

It is designed as a living system—continuously evolving as new capabilities, partners, and data are added.

In the AI era, no organization should ever again compete alone.

The IIBE Blueprint enables companies to:
Sense and interpret change faster
Integrate internal functions with external networks
Shift from transactions to co-creation
Build ecosystem-scale business models
Create resilience and continuous learning into strategy

What makes IIBE distinctive?

AI is foundational, not optional. IIBE builds this progressively
It connects strategy → operations → innovation into one system
It provides diagnostics, tools, and activation pathways
It positions ecosystem orchestration as a core enterprise capability
It’s built as a living system — evolving as data and partners scale

Designed for Co-Creation and Collaborative Impact

Co-creation is not a workshop, pilot, or hackathon.
It is a disciplined, orchestrated capability.

The IIBE Blueprint embeds co-creation into the system:

Shared strategic intent

Clear roles, rights, participation models

New value-capture and value-share mechanisms

Integrated data and learning flows

AI-supported sensing and decision-making

Ecosystems become innovation engines, not optional side projects.

Instead of innovation being a series of siloed projects or pilots, the IIBE Blueprint demonstrates how this extends beyond the singular into the connected and becomes:

Integrated into strategy and operations

Adaptive to signals and shifts in the external environment

Ecosystem-led rather than pipeline-led

Coordinated across partners, not controlled by one actor

This turns collaboration into scalable advantage—not episodic experimentation.
Industries that previously worked in isolation can now build cross-category growth:
mobility + energy, finance + health, manufacturing + cities, agriculture + climate tech.

How the IIBE Blueprint Is Structured

The blueprint follows a systematic progression:

Problem Framing – why value chains, strategy, and innovation are breaking recognizing the new need of Purpose and Value Creation

Applying the Ecosystem Dynamics – the five forces of value creation:

sensing

learning

co-creation

orchestration

renewal

Structural Decomposition – a dual-layer architecture across:

Strategic Layer

Operational Layer

that searches for Cross-cutting opportunities that provide new value.

Business Model Implications – platform, data, value capture, ecosystem roles move existing frameworks, often highly static and not constantly updated or questioned into a dynamic one constantly in motion and searching for change in a world “on the go”

Activation – tools, pilots, analysis, diagnostics, leadership mobilization are all “wrapped up” in the stages of activation and adoption. Recognition of your speed is in the realization of your capabilities, abilities and ambitions.

It provides a new category-defining approach where the enterprise and its partners become an adaptive, learning, co-creating ecosystem. Instead of relying on linear planning or isolated innovation activity, IIBE connects strategy, operations, intelligence, and partners into one dynamic model for value creation.

Designed for the delivery of Co-Creation and Collaborative Impact

Co-creation is not a workshop, pilot, or hackathon. It is a disciplined, orchestrated capability.

The IIBE Blueprint embeds co-creation into the system:

Shared strategic intent

Clear roles, rights, participation models

New value-capture and value-share mechanisms

Integrated data and learning flows

AI-supported sensing and decision-making

This turns collaboration into scalable advantage—not episodic experimentation.
Industries that previously worked in isolation can now build cross-category growth:
mobility + energy, finance + health, manufacturing + cities, agriculture + climate tech.

Strategic Impact

The IIBE aims to:

Create a standard language and architecture for business ecosystems

Help organizations move from transactional partnerships to co-creation

Connect strategy, operations, and innovation in one integrated system

Make ecosystems intentional, scalable, and measurable

Support resilience in uncertainty, AI disruption, and sustainability pressures

Just as ERP and CRM gave us a new way of operating IIBE aims to define Ecosystem Dynamic Orchestration a new form of category creation.

It is possible in far,far less time to achieve this and it is the BHAG called for!

Intelligence at the Core — AI From Inside-Out and Outside-In

IIBE is built for the AI era. You progess at your “adapted speed”

Inside-out: AI helps organizations sense signals, coordinate resources, and accelerate decision cycles across business units and partners.

Outside-in: AI integrates external data, ecosystem signals, technologies, and demand shifts into real-time strategy.

This dual intelligence creates dynamic sensing, adaptive governance, and the ability to redesign offerings, services, and business models continuously.

Ecosystems stop reacting — they start anticipating.

A Structured Path to Ambition

One of the biggest gaps in ecosystems today is translation: leaders see the ambition but lack the roadmap.
The IIBE Blueprint provides a measured, progressive pathway:

Diagnose where you are

Define ecosystem intent

Build orchestrating capabilities

Mobilize partners and platforms

Scale co-creation

Reinforce with governance, metrics, and learning systems

It builds on top of existing structures – not in place of them.
This is why legacy organizations, regulated industries, and large incumbents can adopt it without wholesale disruption.

Ambition becomes executable.

New Governance for a New System

Traditional governance is designed for control.
Ecosystem governance is designed for coherence.

The IIBE Blueprint introduces fresh approaches to:

shared risk

shared data

shared IP

shared innovation pathways

dynamic participation and exit rules

multi-party decision systems

These practices are deliberately documented, tested and expanded at www.paul4innovating.com, where the tools, structures and frameworks continue to evolve.

A New Organizational Purpose and Design

Organizations adopting the IIBE Blueprint don’t just execute differently—
they think differently.

They move:

from competition → to collaborative advantage

from ownership → to orchestration

from rigid plans → to dynamic learning

from internal efficiency → to ecosystem value creation

The business becomes a platform for shared growth.
The operating model becomes adaptive.
The strategy becomes systemic and intelligence-led.

This is why IIBE is not adding to the noise of frameworks.
It is defining a new category.

Finally, Ecosystems are not the future — they are the present

The organizations that win will be the ones that:

co-create faster than others can innovate alone

scale through partnerships instead of fixed assets

use intelligence to sense and respond in real time

align business, technology and sustainability goals through shared value

The IIBE Blueprint turns this from aspiration into operating reality.

If you’re exploring how to move from strategy and talk into structured action, ecosystem design, orchestration, and intelligence—this is where the next chapter of business is heading.

Find out more. lets make the connection. If this perspective resonates with you and you want to make a real difference to your organisations challenges , I’d welcome a conversation.

In every industry, boundaries are blurring. Markets are no longer shaped by single competitors but by interconnected systems of collaboration, data, and design. Advantage now depends less on control and more on the ability to connect, integrate, and adapt at speed.

Yet for many leadership teams, ecosystem thinking still feels abstract — too conceptual to guide immediate strategy, too detailed to act on without losing focus.

The challenge isn’t belief; it’s clarity — making the connections, building relationships, and integrating these into the present while shaping the future pathway toward Ecosystem Management.

This is where a new discipline is forming — one that demands a twin-engine understanding:

A Meta-Frame to clarify how ecosystems create and shift value.

An Operating Architecture to translate that understanding into structured, phased engagement.

IIBE + OS — The Structural and Operational Twin Engines

We need a different understanding of the value and power of Ecosystems and the ability to operationlize it. I call this the IIBE-OS.

Ecosystems are already around us; the question is whether we are leveraging all the potential, co-creation, and collaboration on offer — or waiting for others to shape the space first.

Frameworks like the IIBE provide the means to translate recognition into advantage, ensuring ecosystem thinking becomes a core element of business renewal.

The dynamics in the twin provides the IIBE-OS engine

The Integrated Innovation Business Ecosystem (IIBE) provides the strategic lens to clarify where ecosystem opportunity lies. It reframes complexity into a structured understanding of how advantage evolves across networks of partners, capabilities, and value flows.

Overcoming so often the very “static” world we live in within our existing business models, the evaluation of markets and opportunities needs way, way beyond occasional reviews and updates it needs Dynamic Intelligence. Today we are dealing with complexity, ever-changing market and environmental challenges- we deserve to make our OS a new dynamic one

The role of Dynamic Ecosystems in my view must become the “operating force“. They provide the “organizing energy” within the IIBE

The Dynamic Modular Architecture (DMA) complements this by offering the adaptive design to act with precision. It enables organizations to explore and integrate ecosystem opportunities without destabilizing their current business model — engaging at their own pace, learning as they move, and scaling as confidence grows.

Dynamic Ecosystems provide the adaptive force that “triggers” responsiveness and renewal, it the IIBE it is the connective tissue across modules and acts as this continuous intelligence layer- sensing, learning and realigninig the ecosystem. Its “express purpose” is to ensure the architecture and ecosystem model being pursued never becomes static, but always stays in motion– learning by deliberate design and focus.

Together, IIBE and DMA form a disciplined way to see, frame, and phase ecosystem participation — moving from blueprint recognition to structured integration, and from isolated initiatives to a cohesive, interconnected business ecosystem.

The Integrated Interconnect Business Ecosystem Approach (IIBE)

For Leaders Seeking Relevance Without misunderstanding or distractions

Ecosystems mean different things to different people, contexts, and situations. The key for leaders is to reduce the noise — to distinguish what’s relevant, timely, and valuable for their own journey.

For CEOs, Strategy EVPs, and Division Heads, this is not about diving into the mechanics of ecosystems. It’s about strategic readiness and real awareness of their options — recognizing both opportunity and preparedness, clarifying what’s changing, and identifying where advantage will next emerge.

Integration for Immediate Advantage

Integration is today’s dominant theme, leveraging what we have — but integration without structure risks confusion. The IIBE and DMA together offer a pathway for blended, phased, and intelligent integration, aligning immediate opportunity with long-term coherence offers a clearer pathway.

This is how organizations build adaptive advantage — integrating ecosystem engagement into current strategy while preparing for future renewal.

For now, the questions are not simple but critical:
What might your organization be missing by not seeing and shaping its ecosystem more clearly?

Ecosystems are forming across your industry- fear of missing out or leading the future– your choice?

Do you see the future in Dynamic Ecosystem Intelligence as your new operating force? Those dynamics get built into your (existing) operating code as your new organizing energy.

We need a dynamic ecosystem where intelligence continuously improves on how we sense market change, partner and competitor shifts, make those orchestration decisions and adapt our strategy. The system learns. The organization learns. To adapt faser with adaptive precision in dynamic ways.

Are our initiatives delivering all the value they could?

This time of year is always demanding — year-end reviews, next-year plans, and the pressure to show tangible impact from so many ongoing initiatives. Perhaps this year, uncertainty feels even sharper.

AI pilots, innovation programs, sustainability efforts, and partnerships are advancing — yet too often in isolation. The result: value potential left on the table and a missing sense of cohesive advantage.

Across many conversations, a common refrain keeps surfacing: initiatives are multiplying, but integration is lagging. It is Integration, not invention, now determines adaptability and return.

My research on Ecosystems is throwing up some revealing issues, briefly

Universal Signals Across Industries Really Need Answering

Across energy, manufacturing, mobility, and infrastructure, and many others, the same signals keep repeating — familiar yet unresolved:

Initiatives multiply, but integration lags.
AI, digital, sustainability and partnership programs grow rapidly yet rarely connect, compete for attention instead of compounding results.

Collaboration remains transactional, not reciprocal.
Shared value and co-creation are discussed more than they’re designed.

Rigidity limits adaptability.
Legacy structures and siloed decision rights slow market response, delays the translation of opportunity into outcome.

The cost of isolation rises.
Each “transformation” competes for attention — draining focus, budgets, and belief. It is suggested that fragmented initiatives quietly erode 20–40% of potential impact.

These are not capability gaps; they are connection gaps.

Across industries, most leadership teams now face a similar truth — the challenge isn’t invention but integration. The ability to connect existing programs, partnerships, and data systems determines both near-term performance and future adaptability.

The immediate opportunity and impact lies in connecting what’s already moving — not starting anew. Thinking through an Ecosystem lens we can quickly gain different insights and value opportunities.

Addresssing the isolation of multiple programs are overlapping, don’t interconnect and often compete for attention not alignment. Strengthening innovation and digital platforms by engaging in more open architectures can gain a greater return from the different engagements, perspectives and diversity in new knowledge and broader application understandings.

Recognition Patterns from Industry Leaders

Analysis of researching a variety of successful Ecosystem-focused organizations including – Schneider Electric, John Deere, Alibaba, Saleforce, Siemens and others— reveals recurring patterns:

Each has begun shaping distinctive ecosystem models — open architectures, shared data systems, or co-innovation networks — all signalling that the next advantage lies in integration.

Those who connect existing assets and partnerships accelerate adaptation.

Those who treat ecosystems as design, not as projects, create sustained differentiation.

Those who shift from control to collaboration uncover new value spaces.

Each is moving toward more open architectures, shared data systems, and co-innovation models — showing that integration now defines leadership.

The Shift Underway

Business boundaries are blurring fast. Advantage is migrating from scale and control toward connection, orchestration, and shared capability. This demands early adaptation to overcome rigidity and unlock reciprocal market opportunity. We so often get caught up with “transformation” progams

Transformation signals big changes, longer timelines, changing in controls and added layers of risk. Why not take a more progressively approach to ecosystem thinking, questioning and adapting existing strategy, operations and partnerships where coherence and adaptability by focusing more on what needs to integrate in improving connections, promoting fresh dialogues, giving orchestration a higher level of structure and focus and spreading out shared capabilities for improving learning.

We need to focus on what is already in motion, not starting anew. Lets aim for

Reduced duplication and re-energise innovation momentums

Regain coherence, spped and confidence in execution

Build a sustaining Ecosystem framework that integrates not seperates.

The question is not if this shift will redefine your industry — but how ready your organisation is ready to act on it.

A Bridge to Action as a proposal

The Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem (IIBE) blueprint offers a way to align what’s already in motion — linking existing initiatives, partnerships, and digital efforts into a cohesive operating logic.

It helps leadership teams:

Extract early returns from what’s already funded.

Build readiness for cross-boundary collaboration.

Reduce duplication and re-energize innovation momentum.

Regain coherence, speed, and confidence in execution.

Build a sustaining Ecosystem framework that integrates not separate.

Curiosity Prompt:
Where might integration unlock your next 10% of impact — not next year, but now?

Want to find out more? I would welcome a short exchange on how the IIBE blueprint brings Ecosystems to life for you.

From Meta-Framework to Dynamic Modular Architecture: Why Ecosystem Thinking Must Now Become Practical.

After the launch of the Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem (IIBE) in September providing a blueprint to understand and build out Ecosystem thinking and design, the past four weeks has moved the “what” as well as the “why of Ecosystems into the essential “how”. This takes Ecosystems into the operational stage.

For me, it has been thrilling to evolve this thought process through some amazing intelligence from multiple advanced AI chatbots to brainstorm, validate, question, code and provide in a level of persistence in all the avenues I needed to explore and validate.

This work has achieved a realisation. We have moved to the operating level with IIBE-DMA

Moving and exploring the IIBE frame in some very intensive explorations have realized the IIBE–DMA (Dynamic Modular Architecture) : A Practical, Configurable System. This is with AI support building out a growing Dynamic Intelliengence.

The IIBE–DMA outcome is a 3 × 5 × 3 Model

A 3 x 5 x 3 architecture where Purpose, Governance and Technology feed a dynamic intelligence engine that generates decision flows, intelligence and diagnostics for building out new Innovation, Business and Enterprise Value.

-3 Enablers – Purpose, Governance, Technology (the design principles)

5 Dynamic Modules – the continuous intelligence loops (the process engine)

3 Outcome Domains – Innovation, Business, Enterprise (the realization system)

Additionally from some work I did some months back on reverse engineering Ecosystems I am piloting a further “enhancement” of the Ecosystem Health Dynamics (EHD). More on that in later posts

The shift from the original IIBE is the following

Shift in Emphasis and accelerating the advancement on this Ecosystem design

From blueprint → to operating logic.

From “defining” ecosystems → to “activating” and adapting them dynamically.

Early validating of the EHD = Regenerative Intelligence System

A Market Realization We Can No Longer Ignore– Ecosystems need to accelerate!

Over the past few years, I’ve watched many organizations wrestle with the same dilemma:
they know their future depends on ecosystems, but they struggle to make that future operational.

The term transformation has lost its meaning.
What leaders want now is connection, coordination, and progress that fits within their current reality.

Every executive I speak with faces similar constraints—reduced budgets, fragmented innovation portfolios, overlapping AI and digital initiatives, and the growing fatigue of endless “change programs.”

It’s not ambition that’s missing. It’s integration, application and understanding.

The ecosystem era has arrived, but the models to deliver it in practical, low-risk ways have not kept pace. That recognition drove a rethinking of my own earlier work:

This post hopefully provides the evolution in my thinking

The Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem (IIBE).

The Original IIBE: A Meta-Framework for Connection

When I first introduced the IIBE, it was intended as a meta-framework—a comprehensive design for understanding how innovation, business, and enterprise ecosystems could operate as one interconnected system.

It explained how value circulates across domains and why the future competitive advantage would come from integration rather than isolation.

The framework connected different ecosystem domains—innovation, business, and enterprise, along with three others that are distinctive in themselves— enterpreneur, enterprise-to-enterprise and interconnected ecosystems– through three critically enabling layers: purpose, governance, and technology enabled and two further ones of relationships, and value creation as necessary focus points providing inputs and outcomes to build out

The Integrated Interconnect Business Ecosystem Approach

That design brought clarity and language to an emerging discipline.
The IIBE helped organizations see that the relationships between internal teams, external partners, and platforms are not side activities; they are the business itself.

Yet, for many, the model remained more conceptual than actionable.
They could see the logic, but struggled with where to begin.
What they needed was not another transformation framework, but a flexible configuration model that could be applied within their current context.

The Market Reality: From Transformation to Integration

We are in a consolidation era, not a transformation era.
Organizations are trying to simplify, rationalize, and extract more value from what already exists.
But simplification alone doesn’t create coherence.

The real opportunity lies in connecting the scattered capabilities, data, and partnerships that already exist—but don’t yet talk to one another.

The IIBE meta-framework offered a compelling “why” and “what.”
What the market now needed was the “how” and “where.”

That is what led to the next evolution: the Dynamic Modular Architecture (IIBE–DMA).

Introducing IIBE–DMA: A Practical, Configurable System

The IIBE–DMA transforms the original meta-framework into an applied architecture—a system organizations can progressively configure to fit their specific challenges.

It’s not a replacement for the IIBE; it’s its practical expression and operation methodology.
Where the original IIBE mapped the ecosystem logic, the DMA brings it to life.

Three principles define it:

Dynamic — it continuously senses, learns, and adjusts.

Modular — composed of interoperable building blocks that can be used independently or together.

Architectural — gives structure and coherence across the business without stifling flexibility.

In essence, the DMA enables organizations to integrate ecosystem logic without disruption—to configure rather than transform.

The Five Core Modules of the IIBE–DMA

Each module is independent yet interconnected. Together, they form a living architecture for adaptive organizations.

Mapping & Diagnostic — reveals the current ecosystem landscape, dependencies, and value flows.

Connectivity & Alignment — links initiatives, teams, and partners around shared outcomes.

Governance & Decision Flow — introduces light, adaptive mechanisms for coordination.

Learning & Intelligence — embeds feedback loops and uses AI as an accelerator of learning.

Technology Sensing & Enablement — connects data, digital tools, and platforms into one coherent fabric.

These modules can be deployed progressively—tested in pilots, measured for impact, and expanded through evidence of value.

The result is a dynamic system that learns by doing.

Why This Matters Now

This shift—from transformation to configuration—matters because it meets the market where it truly is.

Executives no longer have the patience for multi-year change programs.
They need results in 90 days, scalability within 12 months, and adaptability for the long term.

The IIBE–DMA offers precisely that: a way to connect and compound existing strengths instead of continually building from scratch.
It delivers four essential advantages:

Practical Integration — turns theory into operating logic.

Low-Risk Adoption — small pilots before large commitments.

Cross-Framework Alignment — integrates Agile, ESG, AI, and innovation efforts into one design logic.

Adaptive Scalability — grows as the organization learns and matures.

It gives organizations the tools to integrate, coordinate, and compound—the three verbs that define real ecosystem advantage.

AI’s Role: Intelligence Through Connection

AI is reshaping business, but not always coherently.
Too often, AI projects sit apart from strategy or innovation portfolios.
Within the IIBE–DMA, AI becomes the accelerator of intelligent connection—linking insights, people, and systems into a continuous learning loop.

The architecture gives AI context.
It ensures that intelligence flows through a connected ecosystem rather than getting trapped in isolated use cases.

It’s this orchestration—of human and machine intelligence working together—that enables organizations to adapt faster and with more precision.

Moving Towards A Living Architecture for Adaptive Business

The IIBE–DMA is a move from static describing framework to the application that determines a dynamic living architecture—a system that flexes with context.
It allows organizations to evolve continuously rather than in bursts of transformation.

It invites leaders to think in modular terms:

Configure what fits now.

Scale what proves value.

Retire what no longer serves.

This architecture brings the agility of ecosystem design to the heart of business structure.

It’s no longer about building an ecosystem as a separate initiative.
It’s about becoming one—a connected, responsive, learning organization.

Why the Pivot Matters

This evolution from the IIBE Meta-Framework to the Dynamic Modular Architecture is more than refinement; it’s a reframing of what organizations truly need.

It moves ecosystem design from theory to traction.
It shows how connection—not reinvention—creates differentiation.
And it offers a roadmap for leaders seeking value without volatility.

As I look ahead, the message feels clearer than ever:

The future belongs to those who can configure, not just transform.

An Invitation to Explore

The IIBE–DMA is now the anchor and bridge for applying ecosystem logic in progressive, practical ways.

Organizations can start small—with an IIBE–DMA pilot that maps current connections, identifies integration opportunities, and demonstrates measurable impact within 90 days.
From there, the architecture can expand naturally, guided by what works and what is determined in gaps and opportunities for advancement.

If this perspective resonates with you, I’d welcome a conversation.
Not about transformation—but about connection, configuration, and capability.
That’s where the next competitive advantage lies at your pace and exploration.

During September 2025 I launched the Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem (IIIBE) supported by fifteen posts giving different levels of explanation, validation and understanding.

In recent days I conducted an initial audit of this and I used Chat GPT, Google Gemini and Claude to make their assessments. I was surprised by the significant differences each provided back. There were “thumbs up” for the explainers and the comprehensive framework with specifc mention of:

Narrative arc that offered logically: problem framing → core dynamics → structural decomposition → orchestration & intelligence → value-shift to co-creation → business model implications → call to action. Readers can follow the progression.

Concept clarity for specialists. Terms like dynamic ecosystem, orchestrator’s engine, adaptive core, and value co-creation are consistently defined and cross-referenced across posts. That builds credibility.

Depth and rigor. There’s substantive decomposition (pillars, dual layers, intelligence layer) — which signals this is more than buzz. Good for an audience that values frameworks and thinking tools.

The What’s missing part

I expected this as the highest missing parts, the “thumbs down” but this has changed in the recent ten days in October of back and forth to debate this, my logic at the time and suggestions on how and when to resolve these. I took the view- make (initally) aware, then build out.

The top three weakness areas were

Audience targeting and use-cases are thin. The series reads as an expert’s blueprint for peers — but it lacks concrete, differentiated audience tracks (e.g., incumbent C-suite, corporate venture teams, platform builders, public sector/regional convenors). Readers don’t see themselves mapped to a clear pathway.

Limited real-world examples and case studies. The theory is strong, but there are few short, vivid case studies showing the IIBE applied (even hypothetical or anonymized). Real cases accelerate belief and adoption.

Actionability and tools missing. Readers are told what and why but not enough on how to start: playbooks, diagnostic tools, short assessment, KPIs, or a minimum viable pilot plan are absent.

I have not been holding back on tools etc I think a more deliberate sequencing makes sense here: Foundation – Framework- Tools.

A sort of “classic” guides approach, as an ex-mountaineering person

Show them the mountain (the objective and reason why this journey matters)

Explain the terrain (the IIBE framework structure) and its complexities

Provide the equipment to navigate (reverse engineering, templates, assessments, tools)

Offer the practical solutions to known pathways, being adaptive and responsive

It is foundational work of building a knowledge system to deal with Business Ecosystems.

We need to recognize pattern recognition constantly, discover reusuable backbones, determine traditional vs. ecosystem model differences, be ready for common pitfalls of what goes wrong, recognize the triggering moments where change becomes urgent and build accessible ot ramp off entry points.

These consciously build towards C-Level and Boards wanting the proof that this works. The support for strategy teams building a well-designed ecosystem, CFO’s having the ability to evaluate applicable ROI’s, provide risk-adverse executives, C-suite facing crisis and growing, adaptive companies what it needs to act.

So to provide a specific audience track to those specifically I would be targeting C-Suite Leaders / Practitioners and Innovators

Executive Summary (for C-Suite Leaders)

The Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem (IIBE) Blueprint equips leaders to escape siloed, fragile structures. By aligning internal capabilities with external networks into one adaptive, orchestrated system, IIBE delivers faster value creation, resilience in disruption, and a repeatable path to sustainable growth. It is the practical playbook for turning strategic liabilities into collaborative advantage.

IIBE is a practical blueprint for transforming siloed businesses into adaptive ecosystems. It aligns internal capabilities with external networks to create faster value, resilience, and collaborative growth.

Executive Summary (for Practitioners / Innovators)

The IIBE Blueprint is a design framework for building future-ready ecosystems. It integrates enterprise functions and partner networks through a dynamic core, guided by five ecosystem dynamics — sensing, learning, co-creation, orchestration, and renewal. The Blueprint turns complexity into an actionable pathway, with diagnostics, pilots, and tools to embed co-creation into the business model and scale new opportunities.

IIBE gives organizations the tools to design and scale interconnected ecosystems. It turns complexity into action with clear dynamics, diagnostics, and pathways to co-creation advantage.

Clarify what the IIBE offers

The IIBE blueprint is presented as a holistic and proprietary framework designed to navigate business complexity by integrating interdependent ecosystem layers into a cohesive whole, moving beyond traditional boundaries and silos. The launch, as documented through the 15 blog posts in September 2025, emphasizes the following aspects:

Focus on Dynamism and Interconnectedness: The blueprint is centered on “dynamic ecosystems,” which are identified as the core principle for long-term viability and competitive advantage. It emphasizes the non-hierarchical, circular, and constantly evolving nature of these systems. The framework’s success is tied to its ability to create a “virtuous cycle of value, resilience, and adaptability” through orchestrated interdependence.

Deconstruction and Foundational Elements: The launch included a deconstruction of the IIBE as a foundational framework. It explains the three main layers—Strategic, Operational, and Crosscutting—and how they must be fully integrated to function effectively. The framework also includes a Business Model Ecosystem, with 69 mapped components across these layers, to evaluate readiness, maturity, and identify gaps.

Strategic Imperative and Value Creation: The IIBE is positioned as a strategic imperative for future-proof growth. It is designed to help organizations expand beyond core markets, accelerate innovation by tapping into diverse knowledge pools, cultivate new revenue streams, and build resilience. The framework introduces a shift in thinking from traditional value creation to “value co-creation”.

Building Blocks and Design: The blueprint outlines specific building blocks for creating an integrated ecosystem, including Purpose, Relationship, Value Creation, Governance, and Enabling Technology. The visual makeup of the framework is presented as a way to help companies build an integrated ecosystem that is agile and client-focused. The dynamic ecosystem is described as the central driving force within this framework.

The Integrated Interconnect Business Ecosystem Approach

Key Takeaways:

Finally what was pointed out as What’s Exceptional:

The intellectual architecture is sound and comprehensive

The dual-layered framework (7 vertical + 5 horizontal) is innovative

The positioning as proprietary methodology (Blueprint ID: IIBE-2025-v1.0) is strong

Critical Gaps that need resolution soonest

No proof points – zero case studies or quantified outcomes

Theory-to-practice gap – “Diagnose, Integrate, Orchestrate” mentioned but not detailed

Missing implementation roadmap – no timelines, resources, or prerequisites

The Path Forward

The IIBE has the potential to become a significant framework in business ecosystem thinking, but it needs a “translation layer” between brilliant theory and market adoption. This means

Ruthlessly simplify the entry point, targeting specific audiences

Prove it works with documented results

Make it usable with practical tools

Build community for network effects

Create urgency with compelling case for change now

Final Recommendation
Pause additional conceptual content. Invest the next 90 days in proof, simplification, and practical tools. The theory is ready; the market isn’t convinced yet. Close that gap, and IIBE could become the defining framework for 2025-2030 ecosystem thinking.

So, the next phase of the work begins- more towards diagnostics, assessment and PoC.

The post Assessment of the IIBE Blueprint Launched in September 2025 first appeared on Building Your Innovation & Ecosystem Intelligence.

Ecosystem governance isn’t a static set of rules applied once, but a dynamic, evolving process that adapts as the ecosystem matures. It absolutely is a living, central building block.

To structure this out and convey its dynamic nature, we introduce The Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle Framework. By framing governance as “an adaptive lifecycle” and building out the core pillars of Dynamic Governance, this framework offers a unique perspective.(This is a repost to bring this into the IIBA Launch due to its essential position.

Viewing Governancein within a lifecycle approach with suggested Governance Mechanisms to be included at each stage, makes a significant difference in how you manage this within any Ecosystem thinking and design, ensuring it evolves precisely with the journey you are making.

Adaptive Governance: The Operating System
Governance is a critical determinant of success, as research indicates that governance failures are a significant contributor to 85% of all ecosystem failures. The IIBE positions governance as the “operating system” that enables all other components to function and evolve. It must be an adaptive, living system that evolves with the ecosystem, moving away from rigid hierarchies and fixed contracts towards distributed and flexible per-discussed agreements.

The Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle provides a comprehensive view of how to manage this layer, with key pillars that focus on the dynamics:

Core Pillars of Dynamic Governance:

Trust & Transparency: Essential for information sharing and collaborative decision-making. How is trust built and maintained in a dynamic environment?

Incentive Alignment: Ensuring that all participants see mutual benefit and have a stake in the ecosystem’s success. How do incentives evolve with the ecosystem?

Decision-Making Frameworks: Moving beyond rigid hierarchies to distributed or federated decision-making. Who decides what, when, and how, as the ecosystem changes?

Conflict Resolution: Proactive mechanisms for addressing disagreements before they escalate, adaptable to the nature of the conflict.

Data & IP Management: Clear and evolving rules for data ownership, access, sharing, and protection, crucial in digital ecosystems.

Performance Monitoring & Feedback Loops: How does the ecosystem self-regulate and learn from its performance? This links directly to my “Dynamic Adaptation and Assessment Engine” provided within the IIBE methodology roll-out.

Four distinct phases to rethink Governance each time

1. The “Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle” Framework:

Instead of just “Governance Models,” frame it as an Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle with distinctive stages, each requiring a different emphasis and set of governance mechanisms.

Stage 1: Emergence & Formation (Discovery & Trust-Building)

Focus: Establishing shared vision, purpose, and initial trust. Defining basic principles for engagement.

Governance Mechanisms: Informal agreements, bilateral MOUs, “Minimum Viable Governance” principles, clear communication protocols, defining initial roles and responsibilities. Emphasis on common goals and quick wins.

Stage 2: Growth & Scaling (Formalization & Value Flow Optimization)

Focus: Formalizing agreements, scaling operations, optimizing value exchange, managing increasing complexity and interdependencies.

Governance Mechanisms: More formal contracts (SLAs, revenue share agreements), dispute resolution mechanisms, shared data standards, performance metrics, dedicated governance bodies (e.g., steering committees, working groups), IP sharing policies.

Stage 3: Maturity & Optimization (Adaptation & Resilience

Focus: Continuous adaptation to market changes, fostering innovation within the ecosystem, managing potential power imbalances, ensuring long-term sustainability and resilience.

Governance Mechanisms: Adaptive feedback loops, scenario planning, dynamic resource allocation, incentive alignment for continuous innovation, mechanisms for onboarding/offboarding partners, collective intelligence platforms, regulatory compliance mechanisms.

Stage 4: Renewal & Transformation (Reinvention & Evolution)

Focus: Re-evaluating the ecosystem’s purpose, potentially spinning off new ecosystems, embracing radical shifts, or gracefully sunsetting parts of the ecosystem.

Governance Mechanisms: Flexible governance structures allowing for experimentation, clear processes for strategic pivots, investment in emerging technologies, mechanisms for re-aligning diverse stakeholder interests during significant change.

Building the tools and assessments to build out different Lifecycle stages of Governance

I have been developing an extensive set of tie-ins (applicable tools and assessments) that I continue to build to offer a more robust “Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle Framework” that addresses each stage of this framework.

These “tie-ins” include Value flow mapping, partner evaluations, strategic interaction framing, AI-Powered Adaption, the nature of dynamic ecosystems, trigger points for Ecosystem recognition, patterns and value creation and conceptual frameworks. Each contributes into Operationalizing and Governance building.

Governance as a “Cross-Cutting Imperative”:

Within my thinking I position governance explicitly within these and take the metaphor suggested as a necessity for constant renewing and validating.

Visual Metaphor: Imagine governance as the “Operating System” of the ecosystem. It’s not just a set of applications; it’s the underlying architecture that enables all other components to function, communicate, and evolve.

Building a living Ecosystem Governance approach

The importance is to think through Governance Pitfalls and Resolution Patterns and I am building this understanding though different means at present as briefly outlined in the tools and assessments part of this post.

The importance at this stage is to recognize Governance is an “adaptive ecosystem or Lifecycle management”, dynamic, ever-evolving as the ecosystem matures. Digital transformation forces us to work with mostly emerging, constantly evolving technologies, and then apply these in an integrated way into an existing business. This stretches our abilities significantly, as we may remain unclear of the finished design for quite some time.

We have to evolve it, as we go. With anything that is evolving in front of our eyes, we will need to recognize some of the decisions we will make will turn out to be wrong but made as a good judgment at the time, on ’emerging’ evidence, not proven. Achieving a digital transformation is becoming really essential for innovation, helping to enable your ability to deliver sustained growth through making all the ‘connections’ come together in different ways than ever before; in evaluations, analysis, in collaborations and in the process from discovery to eventual commercialization.

Digital transformation executed well is a really big undertaking. It goes way beyond making a series of incremental improvements to become cloud-ready as are supposed to build in and reflect social, mobile and digital technologies in the solution set. We need to fundamentally transform our processes by opening up and engaging with customers in dramatically different ways, in real-time, in constant exchanges and connected ways. Everything needs to be tracked and traced.

Customers will want to participate, influence and aid your design and final product. On top, we have to deal with a broad range of communities, across platforms and in different ecosystems at speed, scale, and scope to master different levels of complexity and draw in the expertise we lack within our organization. However, we must do all this in this world of the uncertainty of if it does all connect and work, to reposition all our businesses towards the digital world.

Digital transformation is, without doubt, an event of historic impact, challenging what we know

Technology is becoming an integral part of our lives, for us personally, as consumers or employees, but equally for businesses, the government and our educational institutions. It is pervading everything.

Look at digital transformation as an investment, our future ability to function, compete and communicate will depend on it. Investments always take time to show results, and digital will demand a lot. It is shaping the ways we will work in the future, on how we are going to connect, communicate, and learn. Often, we have been caught up in a specific device we use. This time, it is different though. It is how that set of devices allows us to become connected, how they interact and form a system to tackle a need or task. We are all struggling to re-equip ourselves, in skills, in simply managing, in managing the digital world and its demands. This is another work-in-progress

Digital transformation will keep pushing us to become more efficient and effective yet also to become more adroit and innovative. It erodes and eats into our time that in the past was taken up by so many other things. We will need a new reset in our values and beliefs, we will have to carve out a different set of routines and habits, otherwise digital will simply take over our lives to the detriment of everything else.

The good thing is that Business entities are being forced to open up

Digital transformation happens on a scale and scope that makes many reluctant to take it on; it seems overwhelming in its complexity and risk. The business returns seem hard to quantify in traditional metrics yet the need for transformation compels us to ignore the known metrics and believe in all the unknowns that we are told are achievable.

Often it is hard to convince deciders to support this need for such a significant transformation, whether they are just skeptical or lacking technology adroitness. They want to slowly attack it, sometimes in the hope, it might “sort of” go away. Yet for others, who recognize the future lies in technology and the power of networks and community engagement, it is the opportunity to radically alter their way of doing business; the opportunity to forge new competitive positions that have an engagement at their heart.

We don’t know what the “end game” will look like

We don’t know how the digital transformation will turn out in the end and we have to accept that. Much will come towards us as we adapt, learn and experiment, with many emerging technologies, all in different stages of their evolution.

You sometimes get a sense of crisis pervading the boardrooms, a sense of growing concern, when they recognize the threats and the magnitude of change this transformation will demand of them. They are often the least equipped to understand it. They have to become highly reliant on others to teach them, inform them and encourage them to keep ‘at it’

They will be required to find multiple resources for this journey, and be it just to stay competitive in this new digital world where the demarcation is blurring and industries are agonizing in continuous disruption. It is the blending of all the different experiences, understanding, and comprehension that is rapidly flattening the hierarchy to accommodate all these different voices contributing to building a new digital business landscape. The “survival of the fittest” will be determined by how successfully and how fast deciders

The “survival of the fittest” will be determined by how successfully and how fast deciders maneuver through this shift. Transforming established businesses has become an imperative today.

We are told there are three strategic goals to justify the transformational journey:

Providing a better, systematic customer experience, leading to greater loyalty and fostering a community of advocates

Internally, digital transformation can improve the operational efficiency

New business models, which were not feasible before the time of the connected world, offer new markets and growth opportunities

The worry becomes with customer engagement there is this risk that senior executives will let transformation fail

Of those strategic goals, achieving customer engagement, in the sense of a sustainable partnership, is the most valuable one. Digital transformation enables you to engage your customers along their journey across various products, services and communication channels. Digital has become truly pervasive in people’s lives now and this forces businesses to think about how they can become a consumer technology company, irrespective of what they offer.

The challenges are massive. Companies are struggling to see clear business benefits in traditional ways of managing return on investment. Senior executives have been trained in a curriculum that didn’t prepare them for this world of digital technology and a collaborative world where they have to listen, learn and accept others are often more often right.

The senior executive lacks the understanding of new tools of engagement, which are table stakes already in the world beyond their own corporate offices, in startups, social media companies etc. They consider technology as something for others to worry over. Increasingly, they also lack the relevant exposure and experience to handle the new game successfully.

Driving an effective digital transformation through technologies, which are constantly adapting and evolving, is not the prediction-model based experience they are used to and that got them to the top. A new mindset is required, with solid risk judgment based as much on experience as in listening to others, replacing hard facts often with soft instincts, and incomplete data that is in a constant validation of structured experimentation.

What’s the goal to keep in mind? Looking at the needs of return

Simply put, you need a picture of how you will (eventually) make money when you start your journey of digital transformation. Create a clearly outlined set of value propositions, and define how you will engage and interact with your customers, partners, and suppliers in products, services, and business models.

Your business will revolve around what customers really want, a seamless experience where speed, time, performance and response become dominating values – far beyond a specific job-to-be-done. The return in innovation, in new products and services that will rise in ongoing customer satisfaction, becomes as relevant as pricing a product. The customer is willing to pay for a product he or she believes good value, great service and solves their needs

The toughest part of any transformation is actually recognizing you have to challenge your own past assumptions and be prepared to strip them down and rebuild them on a constant always experimenting basis, adapting to what you ‘hear’ and can ‘see’ in breaking opportunity from all the increased data coming into you to analysis.

In general, business is moving towards a culture of experience. Whether in communications, development, or delivery, with the customer, in the product itself:

Everyone’s time within the organization is pivoted towards the outside world, learning to collaborate, exchange and forge different alliances.

There is a great advantage in seeking increasing speed and scale. It delivers ‘time to impact’ to as wide an audience as you can achieve. Having a global ambition or partnerships that can enable speed to market makes increasing sense but there is a higher likelihood you will have to narrow your offering focus to reduce internal complexity but still deliver within a network of providers, products, and services that deliver to customer needs.

And the most important change in perspective is about being different, about carving out our own uniqueness but recognizing this is forming more around platforms and ecosystems where all participants look to collaborate and build a more superior offering than one they could achieve on their own

So the actual starting point will be to come up with a detailed plan of coordinated actions that challenge the way you have been running today’s business and totally rethinking it from top to bottom to make any transformation, digitally dependent.

Innovation is becoming highly dependent on digital technology, it feeds understanding, validates it and delivers much of the final value proposition. Undertaking a digital transformation becomes essential to the health of innovation, let alone the company for the future.

Social technologies are giving us real-time understanding.

We continually learn nthat intuition and ‘gut feel’ on research set up and gathered weeks or more often months ago, has a hidden cost as it rapidly goes out of date. This ‘knowledge’ is becoming out of date before we can gain from it and sometimes highly dangerous to follow, or believe in in the more volitile market conditions of today’s, those that are rapidly changing. We need to get closer to ‘real-time.’

This reliance on rapidly out-of-date understanding cannot be the basis for any justifications for high-stake bets when it comes to innovation. We need to change our thinking and design in the digital insight part more specifically within and along the innovation process. Technology in all its forms is altering the innovation game but are we adapting to this radical change potential? We need to embrace it.

We have, in the past, partly because of levels of uncertainty. We have been overly reliant on ‘poor’ limited data and tended to take a safer route to market from this limited comprehension of the dynamics within the market. We are trying to achieve well-defined problems based on limited validation and simply place “solutions” into the pipeline for innovation. We attempt to work methodically along the timelines irrespective of changes constantly occuring, often impervious to the market conditions change, often going on before our eyes, with the end result, a disappointment and a lot of wasted energy and resource.

We continue to couch our bets and gravitate to solutions that are as close to what we currently offer, and that just keeps reinforcing the incremental route regretfully.

Today we can radically alter this innovation discovery by getting as close to ‘real-time’ if we care to invest in it. We need to invest in the enablers of technology to deliver constantly updated data, to allow greater analysis of choices and potential, closer to ‘go/no-go’ decision points.

Digital threatens (thankfully) this entire incremental pathway.

Markets continue to have even greater uncertainty and we need to respond in very different, faster, well-informed ways. Competition is changing, markets are blurring and customers are becoming far more vocal. To respond we need to reconceive innovation into a constant and rapid learning approach, listening and observing from these sources.

The need is to become far more iterative in feeding back what we hear; full of experimentation, testing, and adjusting, we must lend ourselves to adopting a far more minimal viable product approach, where we continually test assumptions, checking what is valued about the concept, gained constantly from the customer or market feedback.

Digital is also pushing us to shake off complacency since customers are increasingly further connected and interacting in new ways, making the constant choice, adapting to best experiences, imaginative offers and certainly not being as brand loyal for most of our products as previously. We need to find different and adaptive paths to ‘plug into’ and join the conversation, to help shape that conversation and through these exchanges, recognize how the brand and reputations become increasingly important in all things innovating.

Digital tools are changing how customers discover, evaluate, explore, make their purchases and use products and then how they react, share, interact and make their connections to our brands. The whole process is highly dynamic and reliant on the ‘network and social media effect’, and the job of the innovator is to translate this and respond in fast, nimble, agile ways, to fulfill the needs and capitalize in responsive ways. This demands a radical redesign of the innovation process and the whole customer engagement process. Most of our organizations today, really lag on this engagement, let alone on building a more adaptive and agile innovation process being ‘fed’ by the technology solutions we have available to us today.

The need is to “test to learn” and then adjust and adapt, some thoughts include:

Without a doubt, it is finding and using more techniques and tools that help you make far greater rapid prototyping, testing, piloting and learning from these understandings and how they can be quickly translated back into the innovation process to improve on what you have known, into one of what you have become aware of. “Testing to learn” will become the new innovation mantra and the accepted innovation process; a dynamic, fluid and rapid experimenting that makes it a constant learning one.

We are today, partly down this route of early learning, with the help of software that can capture ideas, offering a sound vehicle for communicating these and a place to gather and define solutions that can be taken forward. Yet we have to push the path of constant evolution and that will continue to come at increasing speed from technology to keep providing new knowledge so as you can constantly improve on your eventual value proposition but that is going to require an ever-increasing agile organization and adaptive system.

We will need to find different ways to redesign the manufacturing process (more outsourcing) to have more adaptive points where we can intervene and change product design further upstream. We will need to find different ways to ramp up or dampen down finished goods and that is going to push ‘agile’ even further. The ability to balance “scale, speed, and scope” will become paramount in this.

We will need to learn to focus on the seizing of emerging opportunities in quicker ways but also take a much tougher approach to divestment, so as to release resources from declining positions of advantage. The whole life-cycle thinking needs challenging and thinking through.

We will need to push for “agile systems” where we can design new applications, find better communication and collaborative social technologies to reduce delays in getting the right information to the right people to advance the process and reduce the duplication of work or the search for the information needed to complete the job. We need to focus much more on reducing innovation process cycle time for faster deployment. We must be constantly adaptive not blindly following an outdated innovation process, that is full of rigidity.

We will also need to invest in more data-driven front ends to build a more sophisticated process of discovery. The whole concept of divergent experiments and convergent testing leading to validations will become the way to think of the innovation process as a re-looping process. This will require a critical mindset change from a linear one on how you set it, in the design of the process and the use and application of the digital tools you deploy to move this through this constant, ongoing iterative process. Nothing can remain ‘static,’ we need to make it ‘highly’ dynamic, iterative and fluid, a constant learn and adapt.

Rapid innovation matters and it will become even more central in 2017 as digital takes hold.

Rapid-iteration needs to replace the fixed product release date mentality we see in much of our innovative software. We are in a world, driven by digital that requires us to constantly adapt to new learning that is coming from real-time market feedback. The way we learn from this and our rapid innovation application process will be all about this continually testing new assumptions to improve our (final) product and service propositions. This is where the cloud provides the ability to constantly update and release, so we the innovators benefit.

This, I believe, requires a rethinking of the innovation process, as we will need to transform the existing methods and make them increasingly digital and social, in real time, feeding (as close to) real-time data and insights. We need to focus on the rates of innovation output from our learning and improvement in the eventual offering, not on the ‘classic’ input and output metrics from the past, as our constant bearing. It is outcome learning as the driver for metrics It is how we design this in a more comprehensive manner will be a real challenge in 2017.

Are we in a pivotal year of the rapid innovation application process? Will we finally move towards a greater fluid and looping innovation process? One that is fully designed and adopt as our new innovation discovery to the execution process based on the transformational effect of technology. One that is a constant path of innovation understanding and evolution that fits far more with these digital transformational times we are going through. They certainly do need to form a closer partnership for us to gain the transforming value.
