I continue to read one report after another concerning the latest state of innovation play. These seem always to be on a repeat button and this does frustrate me. It is like a record stuck at the end unable to be switched off, constantly repeating hopefully there will be some magic intervention. With a record at the end you simple switch it off or lift the “needle” to solve the problem. Let’s do that with simply “innovation”.

Why can’t we move on from talking “just” innovation. We should be highly focused on innovation ecosystems and where they fit with integrated, interconnected business ecosystems. We need to make the connection for todays world.

So let me offer up the compelling case of putting that tired old record about innovation not working finally away and redirecting you to the equivalent of spotify as a Ecosystem solution. Just a typical example- the “excitement” of the 29th PwC Global CEO Survey stating only 50% view innovation as a critical component of their overall business strategy. Well of course innovation is dead, it is seen through the wrong lens.

Innovation needs to be re-invented. The search for more connected higher value work and greater sustaining, focused work is needed today, that is what CEO’s demand. Entire workflows to cover ideation, imagination, creativity, discovery, collaboration and execution are needed. Please abandon legacy thinking that past innovation tools and frameworks are fit for purpose today.

A connected solution that gives you access to millions of ideas, established on a platform of connectivity that is accessable and can bring together different strands of concepts into your required personalisation story- offering a interconnected solution that has innovation at its heart.

The Obsolescence Crisis: Why Stand-Alone Innovation Is Failing

In my work it has been revealing for some years an uncomfortable truth: traditional innovation disciplines—even when practicing “open innovation”—are fundamentally mismatched to today’s reality. They’re operating with 20th-century assumptions in a 21st-century interconnected world. The gap isn’t incremental; it’s structural.

The evidence of failure is everywhere:

Organizations multiply innovation initiatives yet integration lags

AI, digital, sustainability, and partnership programs compete rather than compound

Collaboration remains transactional, not reciprocal

Pilot programs stay trapped in “pilot mode”

Complex challenges like energy transformation, sustainable agriculture, and industrial decarbonization remain fragmented across isolated knowledge islands

The traditional innovation discipline treats innovation as something an organization does. But the connected future demands we recognize innovation as something that emerges from networks of interdependent actors. This isn’t semantic—it’s ontological.

Why Innovation Ecosystems Must Be the Foundation (Not an Add-On)

The compelling argument has three dimensions:

1. Complexity Has Outpaced Organizational Capacity

The challenges facing organizations today—climate transformation, industrial metaverse integration, circular economy transitions, AI-augmented operations—cannot be solved by any single entity, regardless of resources. These require:

High levels of knowledge exchange across traditional boundaries

Sharing of expensive R&D investments and experimental risk

Transparent, collaborative discovery processes

Simultaneous learning and experimentation at scale

When complexity exceeds individual capacity, ecosystems shift from optional to essential. Yet innovation as a discipline still designs for containment rather than connection.

2. Value Creation Logic Has Fundamentally Changed

The competitive unit is no longer the enterprise—it’s the ecosystem it can orchestrate. Traditional innovation disciplines optimize for:

Internal idea generation

Controlled IP development

Linear stage-gate processes

Organizational boundaries as value capture mechanisms

But value in connected systems comes from:

Co-evolution across network participants

Synergistic resource combinations that exceed sum-of-parts

Emergence of solutions impossible in isolation

Network-level capacity that transcends any single player

I have been working on the delivery of a Ecosystem framework, the IIBE framework to build fresh capability that I believe captures this brilliantly: “Advantage now depends less on control and more on the ability to connect, integrate, and adapt at speed.” Organizations today need a very explicit Ecosystem Business Model

3. Innovation Speed Requires Ecosystem Velocity

In dynamic ecosystems, learning accelerates, knowledge diffuses faster, and market opportunities can be captured through diverse channels simultaneously. A single organization moving quickly is still slower than a well-orchestrated network moving together. The math is inexorable: ecosystem velocity > organizational velocity, always. Ecosystems can capture scope, speed and scale.

Why Business Ecosystem Integration Is Not Optional

Here’s the fresh perspective: Innovation ecosystems without business ecosystem integration are structurally unstable. They’re beautiful in theory but fail in practice because:

Missing the “How” of Value Capture

Innovation ecosystems excel at value creation—generating novel solutions through diverse collaboration. But they often struggle with value capture and sustainability because they lack:

Governance structures for equitable benefit sharing

Clear mechanisms for scaling from prototype to market

Aligned business models across participants

Sustainable revenue and investment flows

Business ecosystems provide the architecture for:

Positioning and market adoption strategy

Go-to-market coordination across partners

Value chain consolidation and optimization

Shared risk-reward frameworks

In my work I try to show, the business ecosystem layer “enhances competitiveness, enables shared risks and rewards, and fosters economies of scale that benefit all participants.” Without this integration, innovation ecosystems generate ideas that die in translation.

Missing the “What Matters” Filter

Business ecosystems are grounded in market realities, customer needs, and economic viability. When integrated with innovation ecosystems, they provide:

Problem validation mechanisms

Customer-centric design constraints

Market signal interpretation across the network

Resource allocation discipline

Equally my Composable Innovation Framework recognizes this through its problem validation layer—but most innovation ecosystem thinking skips this entirely, leading to elegant solutions for non-problems.

Missing the Adaptive Intelligence

The dynamic ecosystem component of my IIBE is crucial: it’s the “provocateur and main catalyst challenger” that enables rapid reconfiguration. Business ecosystems without innovation ecosystem dynamism become rigid. Innovation ecosystems without business ecosystem discipline become unmoored. Only integration creates:

Continuous sensing and responding to market shifts

Rapid iteration based on multi-stakeholder feedback

Resilience through distributed intelligence

Co-evolutionary adaptation

The Transition Imperative for the Connected Future

Why transition today rather than later?

1. Technology Convergence Creates a Narrow Window

AI/ML, blockchain, digital twins, IoT, and edge computing are converging to make ecosystem orchestration technically feasible in ways impossible even five years ago. My further work on meta-twinning and the industrial metaverse shows this clearly. But this window won’t stay open—early ecosystem builders will establish standards, platforms, and network effects that become increasingly difficult to displace.

Organizations delaying ecosystem transition are not being prudent; they’re ceding structural advantage.

2. Regulatory and Societal Expectations Are Forcing Collaboration

Sustainability requirements, circular economy mandates, supply chain transparency, and social impact metrics cannot be achieved by individual organizations. Governments and markets are creating forcing functions for ecosystem coordination. Organizations clinging to standalone innovation will find themselves unable to meet basic compliance requirements, let alone competitive standards.

3. Talent and Knowledge Are Reorganizing Around Networks

The most capable innovators—particularly younger generations—expect to work in collaborative, purpose-driven networks rather than siloed corporate structures. Organizations that can’t offer ecosystem engagement will suffer talent disadvantages that compound over time.

4. First-Mover Advantages in Ecosystem Orchestration Are Massive

The entity that orchestrates a valuable ecosystem—like Siemens with Xcelerator, or Apple with the App Store—captures disproportionate value. My recent work shows these platforms create lock-in through network effects, not technology per se. Late movers become participants rather than orchestrators—a structural disadvantage that’s difficult to overcome.

The Integration Architecture: Your IIBE as the Path Forward

What makes this Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem (IIBE) framework compelling is that it solves the integration problem structurally:

Dual-Layered Architecture:

Vertical layers (Innovation, Entrepreneurial, Business, Dynamic, Enterprise ecosystems) provide specialized domains

Horizontal components (value creation, collaborative innovation, governance, adaptive strategy) provide integration mechanisms

The framework is simultaneously comprehensive and modular

Dynamic Core: Positioning dynamic ecosystems as the central driver is brilliant—it ensures the entire system can “thrive on change and quickly reconfigure itself” rather than ossifying.

Practical Implementation Path: The framework offers assessment tools, design patterns, readiness frameworks, and progressive integration pathways rather than all-or-nothing transformation.

The Provocative Conclusion

Organizations face a stark choice: transform their innovation discipline to operate at ecosystem scale, or watch it become irrelevant.

The stand-alone innovation department—even one practicing “open innovation”—is becoming what the stand-alone IT department was in the 1990s: a relic of compartmentalized thinking that cannot survive networked reality. Helping the start-up on innovation is simply for the “birds”. It needs a real connected difference.

But here’s the truly compelling argument: Integration of innovation and business ecosystem thinking isn’t just defensive. It’s the only path to offense. It’s how organizations:

Address wicked problems competitors can’t touch

Create value propositions impossible to replicate

Build moats through network complexity rather than IP alone

Achieve growth that scales across ecosystems rather than hitting organizational limits

My work positions this perfectly, it is why I moved from simply innovation, through innovation ecosystems to interconnected and integrated business ecosystems: we’re not adapting to ecosystems; we’re designing for the “entire IIBE as a living, self-aware system of orchestrated interdependence.”

The question isn’t whether to transition. It’s whether to lead the transition or follow someone else’s ecosystem design who is focusuing on the future, not waiting for the 30th PwC version of why innovation is not working today.

The connected future belongs to those who connect. Why not come and connect with me, I can help you make this “connective innovative” leap.

The Power of Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystems

In today’s complex business landscape, navigating challenges and achieving long-term success demands a new approach. It’s time to move beyond traditional boundaries and embrace the power of Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystems!

So a business ecosystem needs both the integrate and interconnected parts?

So, what does “integrated” truly mean in this context? It goes beyond mere connection. “Integrated” implies seamless flow, shared objectives, and synergistic value creation across different components.

These is a real need for a fundamental shift in how organizations create value and drive innovation. By emphasizing openness, adaptability, and shared vision, integrated ecosystems enable us to collaborate effectively and achieve mutually agreed-upon returns.

The “interconnected” aspect is vital. It’s the operating principle that leads to exponential value creation through network effects. This fosters the fluidity of information, resources, and value exchange between all participating “nodes” and their “links”. This dynamic interconnectedness allows for rapid sensing of change and collective adaptation.

Key aspects of this transformative approach include:

Dynamic as Core: Successful business ecosystems are constantly responsive to change, adapting rapidly and fostering deep collaboration to unlock unparalleled value. This isn’t just a feature, but a foundational operating principle.

Orchestrated Interdependence: Mastering these dynamics means becoming “skilled architects and practitioners,” creating extraordinary value by paying balanced attention to all dimensions.

Transcending Traditional Boundaries: This framework offers unparalleled clarity by moving beyond outdated hierarchical thinking, opening up new market access and synergistic interactions.

A Strategic Imperative: Embracing this dynamic, interconnected, and adaptive approach is crucial for future-proof growth and competitive advantage.

Ready to redefine how your organization creates value and thrives in complex environments? Let’s explore how an integrated interconnected business ecosystem design can create a virtuous cycle of value, resilience, and adaptability for you!

The traditional hierarchical model, with its rigid command-and-control structures, often limits agility, stifles collaboration, hinders adaptation, and creates silos. It’s time to transition from the pyramid to a dynamic, interconnected network.

Shared Purpose: Integrating a common vision across diverse entities, fostered through co-creation and alignment workshops.

Strong Relationships: Building formal and informal collaboration platforms and focusing on relationship-centric KPIs.

Value Creation: Integrating and measuring value creation through shared value propositions, distributed innovation, and joint ventures.

Adaptive Governance: Implementing integrated governance models, shared decision-making frameworks, and clear roles without hierarchy.

Enabling Technology: Leveraging APIs, shared data platforms, and AI/ML to facilitate seamless operations and innovation.

This is about “Future-Proof Growth” – contributing to long-term sustainability and competitive advantage in a world of perpetual transformation. It’s time to architect and practice these integrated ecosystem dynamics to thrive!

Ecosystem governance isn’t a static set of rules applied once, but a dynamic, evolving process that adapts as the ecosystem matures. It absolutely is a living, central building block.

To structure this out and convey its dynamic nature, we introduce The Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle Framework. By framing governance as “an adaptive lifecycle” and building out the core pillars of Dynamic Governance, this framework offers a unique perspective.

Viewing Governance as a lifecycle with suggested Governance Mechanisms to be included at each stage makes a significant difference in how you manage this within any Ecosystem thinking and design, ensuring it evolves precisely with the journey you are making.

1. The “Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle” Framework:

Instead of just “Governance Models,” frame it as an Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle with distinct stages, each requiring a different emphasis and set of governance mechanisms.

Stage 1: Emergence & Formation (Discovery & Trust-Building)

Focus: Establishing shared vision, purpose, and initial trust. Defining basic principles for engagement.

Governance Mechanisms: Informal agreements, bilateral MOUs, “Minimum Viable Governance” principles, clear communication protocols, defining initial roles and responsibilities. Emphasis on common goals and quick wins.

Stage 2: Growth & Scaling (Formalization & Value Flow Optimization)

Focus: Formalizing agreements, scaling operations, optimizing value exchange, managing increasing complexity and interdependencies.

Governance Mechanisms: More formal contracts (SLAs, revenue share agreements), dispute resolution mechanisms, shared data standards, performance metrics, dedicated governance bodies (e.g., steering committees, working groups), IP sharing policies.

Stage 3: Maturity & Optimization (Adaptation & Resilience

Focus: Continuous adaptation to market changes, fostering innovation within the ecosystem, managing potential power imbalances, ensuring long-term sustainability and resilience.

Governance Mechanisms: Adaptive feedback loops, scenario planning, dynamic resource allocation, incentive alignment for continuous innovation, mechanisms for onboarding/offboarding partners, collective intelligence platforms, regulatory compliance mechanisms.

Stage 4: Renewal & Transformation (Reinvention & Evolution)

Focus: Re-evaluating the ecosystem’s purpose, potentially spinning off new ecosystems, embracing radical shifts, or gracefully sunsetting parts of the ecosystem.

Governance Mechanisms: Flexible governance structures allowing for experimentation, clear processes for strategic pivots, investment in emerging technologies, mechanisms for re-aligning diverse stakeholder interests during significant change.

Building the tools and assessments to build out different Lifecycle stages of Governance

I have been developing an extensive set of tie-ins (applicable tools and assessments) that I continue to build to offer a more robust “Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle Framework that addresses each stage of this framework.

These “tie-ins” include Value flow mapping, partner evaluations, strategic interaction framing, AI-Powered Adaption, the nature of dynamic ecosystems, trigger points for Ecosystem recognition, patterns and value creation and conceptual frameworks. Each contributes into Operationalizing and Governance building.

Governance as a “Cross-Cutting Imperative”:

Within my thinking I position governance explicitly within these and take the metaphor suggested as a necessity for constant renewing and validating.

Visual Metaphor: Imagine governance as the “Operating System” of the ecosystem. It’s not just a set of applications; it’s the underlying architecture that enables all other components to function, communicate, and evolve.

Core Pillars of Dynamic Governance:

Trust & Transparency: Essential for information sharing and collaborative decision-making. How is trust built and maintained in a dynamic environment?

Incentive Alignment: Ensuring that all participants see mutual benefit and have a stake in the ecosystem’s success. How do incentives evolve with the ecosystem?

Decision-Making Frameworks: Moving beyond rigid hierarchies to distributed or federated decision-making. Who decides what, when, and how, as the ecosystem changes?

Conflict Resolution: Proactive mechanisms for addressing disagreements before they escalate, adaptable to the nature of the conflict.

Data & IP Management: Clear and evolving rules for data ownership, access, sharing, and protection, crucial in digital ecosystems.

Performance Monitoring & Feedback Loops: How does the ecosystem self-regulate and learn from its performance? This links directly to my “Dynamic Adaptation and Assessment Engine”.

Building a living Ecosystem Governance approach

The importance is to think through Governance Pitfalls and Resolution Patterns and I am building this understanding though different means at present as briefly outlines in the tools and assessments part of this post.

The importance at this stage is to recognize Governance is an “adaptive ecosystem or Lifecycle management, dynamic, ever-evolving as the ecosystem matures. It is a central building block to focus upon in any Ecosystem building or evolution.

The post The Adaptive Ecosystem Governance Lifecycle: Navigating Evolution for Enduring Value first appeared on Building Your Innovation & Ecosystem Intelligence.

The make-up of the Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem Framework provides a radically new way to build your Ecosystem.

Firstly, a short explanation of the Integrated Frame and what it provides, and then a set of visuals that provide the critical aspects of the integrated design of each of the parts.

These are made up of separate ecosystems that form around each ecosystem, suggested in the order that integrates the complete framework: innovation, start-up and entrepreneurial, business, dynamic, enterprise, and enterprise-to-enterprise (E2E) make up the full Ecosystem within this framework.

A Dynamic and Evolving Framework

The “core” central model places interconnectedness and integration at the heart of generating synergistic value and collaboration. This has evolved into an integrated, multi-layered ecosystem framework designed for greater clarity, focused analysis, and a more tailored client approach.

The critical insight now is to see these as connected ecosystem layers operating as interdependent cycles of continuous learning and evolution, integrating and combining with the other layers, driven by an inherent need for agility and co-creation, giving them a circular learning and dynamism to evolve and deliver the ultimate value from this integrated Ecosystem design.

Positioning point

“The Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem offers the framework and mechanisms to unlock value. These building blocks of an integrated ecosystem outlined do offer an interconnected ecosystem to follow, central to the potential for synergistic value and collaboration creation“

Moving this into a truly integrated framework will evolve into a multi-layered ecosystem framework to give a greater horizontal structure and clarity to analyse, and these will be explored separately.

The identified horizontal layers provide a robust framework for analysing and building your multi-layered ecosystem and are made up of Purpose, Relationship, Value Creation, Governance and Enabling Technology

The crucial point that truly refines the understanding of business ecosystems: the inherent non-hierarchical, circular, and constantly evolving nature of these systems.

The Interconnected Business Ecosystem Framework provides a comprehensive roadmap for leaders to:

*Expand Beyond Core Markets: Leverage interconnected ecosystems to identify and penetrate new markets with lower risk and higher potential.

*Accelerate Innovation: Tap into diverse knowledge pools across ecosystems to drive breakthrough innovations and stay ahead of disruption.

*Forge Strategic Partnerships: Identify and collaborate with key players across different ecosystems to create mutual value and competitive advantage.

*Enhance Adaptability: Develop dynamic capabilities to sense and respond to market changes faster than competitors.

*Optimise Resource Allocation: Intelligently distribute resources across ecosystem layers to maximise ROI and minimise risk.

*Drive Sustainable Growth: Create a balanced portfolio of initiatives across different ecosystem stages, ensuring short-term gains and long-term sustainability.

*Cultivate New Revenue Streams: Discover untapped value pockets within each ecosystem, transforming them into profitable business models.

*Build Resilience: Diversify your business interests across ecosystems to create a more robust and adaptable organisation.

Let the visuals provide the explanations

A suggested sequence within the Integrated interconnected Business Ecosystem Framework provides a natural progression and interdependencies for different ecosystems, crucial for achieving innovation, growth, and adaptability cohesively. Forget traditional operating thinking, this value creation is a different mindset

I have been wandering the foothills (of my thinking), looking to clarify my directional purpose. I “hit” upon this as my thought to reflect and explore, and it resonated.

“A New Ecosystem Mindset is needed for the changing world we live in“

I am clear that Ecosystems need to be part of our connected future; we must find ways to (openly) collaborate to find a greater prosperous future that is more inclusive and participative. These are not simply business ecosystems, these are building societal ecosystems.

This future will require decentralised leadership, where every participant is encouraged and empowered to innovate, contribute, and adapt without over-reliance on a single orchestrator. Placing decisions closer to the need offers the ability to change

What is important is those participating will rely on trust, technology, and shared purpose to scale solutions that were previously unimaginable in traditional business silos and the ways we operate today. We do need to think and operate differently.

So, where are the new frontiers?

I see the continued emergence of different technologies that will refine and drive ecosystems, yet the constraining factor will always be, in my opinion, coming back to human capacity; to change, to explore, to take (measured) risk. How do we embrace and not reject progress?

The willingness and ability of individuals, teams, and leaders to embrace change, take risks, and push beyond their comfort zones determine whether these systems flourish or falter.

So in this post, I want to explore constraints and move beyond my “foothills”

The Core Constraints of Human Capacity

Resistance to Change

Fear of the unknown often paralyses progress. People cling to familiar processes and structures, even when they see the potential of something new.

Ecosystem Thinking Challenge: Shifting mindsets from competition to collaboration demands breaking long-held habits and assumptions.

Risk Aversion

Humans are wired to seek safety; risk, especially when outcomes are uncertain, can trigger significant hesitation.

Ecosystem Thinking Challenge: Moving into a shared ecosystem framework requires trust and accepting vulnerability, as success often depends on external partners.

Exploration Fatigue

The sheer pace of technological advancements overwhelms individuals, creating fatigue from constant adaptation.

Ecosystem Thinking Challenge: The diversity within ecosystems can be enriching but also exhausting without the right capacity-building efforts.

Leadership Gaps

Ecosystem success hinges on leaders willing to orchestrate collaboration and take bold steps—qualities that are not always fostered in traditional corporate environments.

Ecosystem Thinking Challenge: Leaders need to embrace roles as facilitators of collaboration, rather than command-and-control decision-makers.

How to Overcome These Constraints

To truly unlock human capacity for ecosystem innovation, organisations and society must invest in fostering resilience, adaptability, and a culture of trust and learning:

First, we must build greater Resilience in Teams and Leaders

Equip people with the tools to handle uncertainty, stress, and change by fostering a growth mindset through training, mentoring, and shared successes.

Develop leadership programs that focus on facilitation skills, trust-building, and distributed decision-making.

Secondly, we need to Encourage Measured Risk-Taking

Create environments where experimentation is rewarded, even when it fails. Highlight case studies where calculated risks paid off.

Design sandbox environments within the ecosystem where participants can innovate in a low-risk, high-reward setting.

Thirdly, we need to shift the Narrative to Shared Opportunity

Reframe collaboration as a mutual opportunity rather than a loss of autonomy. Ecosystems thrive when participants see themselves as co-owners of shared value.

Cultivate an inspiring vision for the ecosystem, one that goes beyond financial gains to include impact, purpose, and meaning.

Fourthly, we must invest in Knowledge Diversity

Recognise the importance of diverse perspectives—bring in voices across cultures, industries, and expertise to challenge stagnant thinking.

Provide ongoing education and upskilling programs, keeping participants informed and energised about their evolving roles.

The Human Frontier: Ecosystem Success Starts Within

Ultimately, ecosystems succeed when humans:

Trust in the collaborative process without fixating on control.

Seek learning opportunities over maintaining the status quo.

Embrace change not as a disruption, but as a necessary ingredient for growth.

Technology may refine ecosystems, but human creativity, courage, and capacity are what truly drive their potential.

Let’s dig deeper into this crucial area.

The big idea for making change: “The Human Frontier: Ecosystem Success Starts From Within”.

How do we look out, recognise that collaborations and co-creation offer a totally different paradigm.

How do we place this into a strong “call to action” for recognising that today’s constraints need to be overcome differently

Building out “The Human Frontier: Ecosystem Success Starts Within” is a bold step for us all to take. It requires acknowledging that collaboration and co-creation aren’t just tweaks; they are a completely different paradigm.

Here’s how we can explore this and develop a powerful call to action for businesses, leaders, and individuals:

Recognising Collaboration and Co-Creation as a New Paradigm

The shift to collaboration and co-creation is not optional in today’s resource-constrained, interconnected world. It represents a paradigm shift from individual control to shared power. Here’s what this new paradigm entails:

Beyond Competition, Toward Collective Value

Traditional models prioritise winning against competitors, but collaboration demands a mindset where collective growth is the metric for success.

Co-creation allows diverse entities to produce solutions that no single organisation could achieve alone.

Reframing Risk as Shared Opportunity

While risk is inherent in collaboration, ecosystems spread it across participants, turning it into an opportunity. Leaders must move from fearing risk to managing it creatively.

From Transactional to Transformational Relationships

Collaboration isn’t about short-term gains; it’s about building enduring partnerships that transform industries, societies, and even human potential.

Humans as Ecosystem Catalysts

Technology may enable ecosystems, but it is human ingenuity, adaptability, and creativity that ignite collaboration. Recognising humans as the beating heart of ecosystems is key to overcoming constraints.

The Call to Action: Breaking Free from Constraints

Here’s how we frame a powerful call to action that challenges leaders, organisations, and individuals to embrace this paradigm shift:

1. Adopt a Co-Creation Mindset

What to Do: Shift from “what can I gain?” to “what can we build together?”

How to Start: Encourage brainstorming across boundaries—whether internal (cross-department) or external (cross-industry).

Action Point: Create spaces (virtual or physical) for exploration-driven collaboration, where experimentation and diverse perspectives thrive.

2. Build Bridges, Not Silos

What to Do: Recognise that every constraint—be it knowledge gaps, limited resources, or cultural barriers—can be overcome by connecting with others.

How to Start: Identify potential collaborators outside your usual sphere. Think cross-sector, cross-cultural, or even global.

Action Point: Actively pursue partnerships with those who challenge your status quo—diverse mindsets spark innovation.

3. Rethink Leadership and Empowerment

What to Do: Leaders must stop “owning” and start orchestrating—facilitating creativity, trust, and mutual success among collaborators.

How to Start: Focus on empowering teams with autonomy and providing tools to experiment without fear of failure.

Action Point: Redesign incentive systems to reward collaborative wins, not just individual or organisational milestones.

4. Redefine Success as Resilience, Adaptability, and Impact

What to Do: Stop measuring success solely by short-term profit or control; instead, prioritise ecosystem resilience, adaptability, and long-term value.

How to Start: Develop success metrics like diversity of input, speed of knowledge sharing, and participant satisfaction—measures that reflect ecosystem health.

Action Point: Publish and celebrate stories of successful collaboration—showcase how diverse teams solved shared challenges.

5. Embrace Ecosystem Learning Loops

What to Do: Treat ecosystems as continuous learning networks, where participants iterate, improve, and grow together.

How to Start: Create feedback systems that gather insights from all ecosystem participants and use them to refine processes, governance, and trust.

Action Point: Leverage case studies of past successes and failures to educate participants about what collaboration can achieve.

A Rallying Cry: The Time to Act is Now

So in summary, let’s offer the call to action with a compelling message:

In an age of finite resources and infinite complexity, the only way forward is together. Collaboration and co-creation are not optional—they are the new currency of success. It’s time to break free from the constraints of isolated thinking and reimagine what’s possible.

This is the time to call to action:

We need to build bridges, empower others, and measure success not by what “we” control, but by what we can achieve together openly and collaboratively, wanting to actively participate.

It is in building ecosystems where collaboration and diversity thrive, that offer greater value, impact and worth to those wanting something (radically) different to improve their lives and advance their possibilities of feeling connected and “gaining” from it.

–

**I was helped along in my thinking here with some AI-powered assistance to prompt and put different strands of thinking into a “decent” order.

Once in a while you should stop and look back. I have been very focused on justifying Business Ecosystems by providing frameworks, mechanisms or attempting to demystify them with suggested analytical or practical proposals.

I have been grouping my articles covered over two sites of paul4innovating.com and ecosytems4innovating.com. Why two sites? Well I am trying to “hold myself”to focusing on thought leadership and conceptual development on the paul4innovation.com site and providing more the implementation guideline and suggested methodologies on the ecosystems4innovating.com.

Is it working? I’m not sure as the two sites tend to fuse into each other and the distinctive points of differentiating the two is not the way it should be, lets put it down to a “work in progress”

So what has occupied my thinking and research in this last eight months or so?

The Deep Dive and Audited Results- yes audited!

I went to medium.com to pull the different content together and synthesis the key aspects. It partly surprised me in all it “provided”but also confirmed the different aspects of business ecosystems I needs to explore and explain.

After the pause for reflection, a greater emphasis to move from providing the building blocks, there is a time to go build! “Implementation” becomes the mantra for the foreseeable future, far, far more than in the past. The “how, when, why and what to implement” and provide the tools to do the job.

So what have I been “rattling on” about in these past eight or more months?

# The primary focus has been on my core concepts and frameworks of business ecosystems.

The Integrated Interconnected Business Ecosystem offers the framework and mechanisms to unlock value. These components and building blocks outlined do offer an integrated ecosystem to follow. This is my “core” central model where interconnectedness and integration are central to the potential for synergistic value and collaboration creation. Moving this into a truly integration framework will evolve to a multi-layered ecosystem framework to give greater structure and clarity to analyze will give a more focused client approach.

The ability to build an Ecosystem Business Model becomes essential. I have attempted to break down its complexity, provides the foundation elements for constructing a business ecosystem that offers a cohesive, well evaluated structured approach. It brings out your uniqueness to build distinctive solutions as all business ecosystems should be unique in design and their value proposition

Dynamic Ecosystems are the operating core of business ecosystems. It is their dynamic elements that provides agility and organizational resilience as the essential balance. We need an adaptive mindset as change becomes the constant dynamic we need to build into our approach to today’s evolving and challenging landscape

Innovation Ecosystems are where we build the dynamism and most of my view has been the need to recognize the current stagnation and limited thinking that has pervaded innovation. We have been trapped in existing thinking and out of date designs to manage innovation and we need to recognize this

The solution for me to change how we undertake innovation is to consider a different, more connected-up framework. I have proposed the Composable Innovation Framework. This brings innovation planning, tracking, collaborating and coordinating into this century as the technology platform forms the backbone of the integrated approach

Then we have the prevailing influences that are shaping Business Ecosystems

Emerging Technologies in its many forms has had the most influence on shaping the design of ecosystems. There continues to grow a reciprocal relationship between different technology and the formation of unique ecosystems. When you add in the different technologies of AI and Machine Learning, Blockchain and Decentralize Models, Digital Twins and Simulations with Edge Computing and IoT you have a “massive” potential for radical change. It is the unique power of understanding how you combine these for creating entirely new ecosystems structure and dynamics

We also have to consider the “interplay and connected mindsets“that is constantly needed in managing Ecosystems. They are constant and dynamic. We need to seek and build adaptive and evolving mindsets, stepping away from conventional models to having the ecosystem mindset is radical, we need to change and practice leadership and operating differently than in the past. We have to think transformation, what is confronting up and what we need to (radically) change.

I looked at the essential need to consider different ecosystems. No one ecosystem can fit all, it is made up of a interconnected, integrate design. We need to recognize there are interconnected parts each operating and contributing differently in Entrepreneurial, Start-Up, Innovation, Business, Dynamic, Enterprise and Enterprise-to-Enterprise. It is these that make up the integrated ecosystem process.

I feel the Entrepreneurial and Start-up Ecosystem needs to be separated out from being treated as preludes to innovation. Recognizing these have highly distinctive activities within often a contained environment to manage risk and opportunity provides greater scope and encouragement to explore edges and evolving thinking. Today we wrap these up as “start-up hubs” or “accelerator centers” The argue for separation or integration dissipates if you treat these as more distinctive.

Recognition that we do need to look through different lenses, open ourselves up to broader Open innovations as collaborative strategies bring confidence and lead to deepening understanding of how ecosystems can work. These go beyond supply chain agreements into multiple opportunities across the organization. Conventional, siloed thinking, needs to be broken down across entire organizations.

We have to break out different needs in how we scope ecosystems. We have to bring in the Mid-sized organizations and give them practical application and benefits of ecosystems so they can forge independence and contribution in distinctive ways to larger, more “orchestrated” ecosystems.

Then we do need to recognize the distinctiveness of Partner Ecosystems. It is partnerships that when combined give distinct value of ecosystems. Recognizing partner ecosystems can address specific industry or social challenges

Natural Ecosystems do have much to offer Business Ecosystems and I find it valuable to spend time investigating these commonalities and sometimes recognizing greater comparisons, they stimulate approaches and methodologies.

Governance and Orchestration is essential. I have been working on different frameworks and approaches for this as it is so critical to success or failure. The failure recognition needs more work

Each of these topics or focus areas recognize the complexities of Business Ecosystems, they each contribute to the emerging Blueprint that can be designed into a specific business ecosystem approach, tailored to each unique challenge or need. Yes, ecosystems are complex, adaptive and highly dynamic and that is why I consistently emphasize the interconnected and integrated needs as so much is interdependent

So the many tools, frameworks that have been emerging form my work form the way forward, it will be interesting where the next eight to nine months takes me. I have a growing set of quantitative assessment methods, working on failure analysis and need to bring in three specific aspects.

The need for recognizing differences in global/ regional variations where structures, culture and governance will show differences. We have to buid more regulatory considerations and how they so often impact ecosystem formation and operation. Thirdly the whole sustainability integration has the need for deeper alignment with environment and sustainability issues. I need to bring these out more within my integrated thinking

Where I get often a real “nudge” is on content formats. My comfortable space is writing content but I need to build out more visualization tools, assessment diagnostics, practitioners feedback on their direct insights and continue to build on comparative business case studies

Finally I undertook a fairly extensive audit of my work in the last two months

A number of positioning challenges came out. My positioning or balance on 1) Abstract vs Measurable, moving conceptual models into more quantifiable metrics, 2) A sense of Static vs Dynamic where stable structures need to give way to evolving systems, 3) the Theoretical vs Visual where text-heavy explanations need corresponding visual representations and finally 4) moving Technology- adjacencies vs Technology-integrated needs to switch from technology discussed as an external force to its (rightful) position as a foundational element needs greater recognition.

Each of these is already being picked up upon, recent posts on technology for example, the re-emphasis of the application of dynamics within my own work by a tighter integration of thinking and the biggest “switch” of all, moving towards implementation and all that needs to have a comprehensive and measurable approach

The different audits all proposed a (slightly) different focus on my web sites and how they should separate out. These were “healthy debates. Not only do I have the principle two of paul4innovating.com and ecosystem4innovating.com my core site of agilityinnovation.com is the “the central advisory point to integrate and apply ecosystem and innovation knowledge from a commercialization perspective”.

Concluding and Moving Forward

The concluding remarks of the audits undertaken (multiple) “based on the evaluation and subsequent discussions, you are not far off from the goal of building an integrated ecosystem knowledge architecture.

I often feel my own “depth of relating and pursuit” seems to not take me towards achieving this goal of offering an integrated ecosystem knowledge architecture but showing me how really hard articulating and demonstrating Business Ecosystems is, simply because of the complexities that are so interconnected.

The cry “onward and upward” comes to mind.

I did not link these to any relevant articles, too many but just put the highlighted word into the search box on each site and hopefully you find what you are looking for or interested in. Let me know if you did not.

Those very forces that seem to be swirling all around us – collapsing economies, low growth, greater competition, tariff and economic “wars”and threats from new, often digitally native competitors – are precisely the catalysts that are, and will increasingly, drive the recognition and application of Dynamic Ecosystems, leveraging advancements in technology like AI and ML but also radically altering how we manage our businesses today.

It is understanding on the idea (or concept) of Dynamic Ecosystems as the decision-making and adaptability core of business ecosystems involves positioning them as both the “intelligence layer” and the “adaptive engine” that powers business agility, resilience, and growth.

This approach redefines their role from a passive network to a responsive, intelligence-driven hub that continuously senses, learns, and guides the ecosystem.

Are we entering a “perfect storm” demanding a different business approach?

The Dynamic core is constantly processing and distributing, challenging, providing information, resource and innovative ideas and insights to give a bidirectional flow. It brings together the required design for an integrated business eco0system needed today

Consider how these pressures today and in the near future create a perfect storm demanding a more dynamic approach:

Collapsing Economies and Low Growth: In stagnant or shrinking markets, traditional linear growth strategies become ineffective. Organizations need to find new sources of value creation, often through collaboration and the pooling of diverse assets and capabilities within an ecosystem. Dynamic Ecosystems offer pathways to explore novel business models and reach new customer segments that individual entities might not access alone.

Greater Competition: Intensified competition, both from established players and disruptive newcomers, necessitates agility and the ability to innovate rapidly. Static, internally focused organizations struggle to keep pace. Dynamic Ecosystems provide a mechanism for accessing external innovation, sharing risks, and quickly adapting to competitive threats.

Threats from New Competitors (often tech-driven): Nimble, digitally native competitors often leverage network effects and data insights to disrupt established industries. To counter this, incumbents need to adopt similar dynamic and data-driven approaches, which are inherent in well-designed Dynamic Ecosystems powered by AI and ML.

Why These Pressures Will Force the Shift:

Necessity as the Mother of Invention: When traditional approaches fail to deliver results, organizations become more open to exploring new paradigms. The pain of low growth or competitive losses will eventually outweigh the comfort of familiar, albeit ineffective, strategies.

Demonstration of Superior Outcomes: As early adopters of dynamic ecosystem principles (often facilitated by technology and AI/ML) demonstrate superior resilience, innovation rates, and market responsiveness, others will be compelled to follow suit to remain competitive.

Technology as an Enabler: The increasing sophistication and accessibility of AI, ML, IoT sensors, and interconnected platforms make the implementation of Dynamic Ecosystems more feasible and impactful. These technologies provide the tools for real-time data analysis, automated decision-making, and the orchestration of complex interactions within the ecosystem.

Shifting Investor Expectations: Investors are increasingly recognizing the value of adaptability and network effects. Companies demonstrating a commitment to building and participating in dynamic ecosystems may be viewed as more future-proof and attract greater investment.

Talent Attraction: Individuals with the skills to navigate and thrive in complex, collaborative environments will be drawn to organizations that embrace dynamic models. This creates a virtuous cycle, further driving the adoption of these approaches.

The Role of Technology (AI and ML):

AI and ML are not just enablers; they are critical components of high-performing Dynamic Ecosystems:

Data-Driven Insights: AI/ML can analyze vast amounts of data generated within the ecosystem to identify patterns, predict trends, and provide actionable insights for participants.

Intelligent Matching and Orchestration: AI algorithms can facilitate connections between participants based on needs, capabilities, and potential synergies, optimizing collaboration and resource allocation.

Automated Processes: ML can automate routine tasks and processes within the ecosystem, freeing up human capital for more strategic and creative endeavors.

Enhanced Adaptability: AI/ML can power adaptive systems that learn and evolve based on the real-time feedback and interactions within the ecosystem, making the entire system more responsive to change.

Dynamic Ecosystems are needed as your core

The strategic shift to dynamic ecosystems as a decision-making core for innovation and business ecosystems reflects a paradigm shift towards intelligent, real-time responsiveness.

The confluence of these pressures with the transformative power of technologies like AI and ML will make the shift from static, control-oriented models to fluid, outcome-focused Dynamic Ecosystems an increasingly urgent and recognized imperative.

In conclusion, the challenging economic and competitive landscape we are currently navigating is not just a backdrop to the potential of Dynamic Ecosystems – it is the very engine that will drive their adoption.

So much is spoken about around “dynamics” when it comes to projecting a higher level of vibrancy or providing the extra value placed within your organizations success. In any thriving business ecosystems it is the dynamics within the system that empower new avenues of innovation, growth and resilience in today’s interconnected world.

I keep reverting back to dynamic ecosystems as it is a journey that requires ongoing nurturing and adaptation but recognizing its central importance is significant.

“Imagine your business is not a static entity, but as a thriving ecosystem – more resilient, innovative, restless and adaptable that you ever thought possible. By embracing the principles of Dynamic Ecosystem thinking, we can unlock new levels of growth and competitive advantage.”

Expanding on the idea of Dynamic Ecosystems as the decision-making and adaptability core of business ecosystems involves positioning them as both the “intelligence layer” and the “adaptive engine” that powers business agility, resilience, and growth. This approach redefines their role from a passive network to a responsive, intelligence-driven hub that continuously senses, learns, and guides the ecosystem.

For me Dynamic Ecosystems become the Core of our innovating activity

The dynamic ecosystem provides the flows between the ecosystems, facilitating these connections. So imagine a circular model with the other ecosystems arranged around the core, the dynamic ecosystem, link the interconnected parts and multi directional arrows showing constant flow and interactions around and through the middle.

The Dynamic core is constantly processing and distributing, challenging, providing information, resource and innovative ideas and insights to give a bidirectional flow.

It is the founding principles of Dynamic Ecosystems that unlock levels of growth and competitive advantage.

Lets explore those principles from a leadership “language” perspective:

From Interdependence & Mutual Benefit to “Strategic Partnerships for Exponential Growth”:

Business Language: “Instead of isolated silos, we’re building a network where our success is intertwined with our partners’. By strategically collaborating and creating mutual value, we unlock new markets, share risks, and achieve growth that would be impossible alone. Think of it as a force multiplier for market penetration and innovation.”

Investment/Exploration Value: Investing in identifying and nurturing the right strategic partnerships within the ecosystem will lead to new revenue streams, access to complementary capabilities, and reduced cost of entry into new markets. Exploring collaborative business models will reveal untapped value.

From Resource Flow & Circulation to “Optimized Resource Utilization & Accelerated Innovation Cycles”:

Business Language: “We’re breaking down internal barriers and external silos to ensure seamless access to critical resources – data, insights, talent, technology. This eliminates redundancy, accelerates knowledge transfer, and fuels faster innovation cycles. Imagine R&D that’s amplified by the collective intelligence of the ecosystem.”

Investment/Exploration Value: Investing in interoperable platforms and data-sharing infrastructure will improve efficiency and unlock valuable insights. Exploring open innovation models and talent-sharing initiatives will accelerate the development and adoption of new products and services.

From Diversity & Redundancy to “Enhanced Resilience & Risk Mitigation”:

Business Language: “A diverse ecosystem isn’t just about variety; it’s about building resilience. By engaging with a wide range of partners, we reduce our dependence on any single entity and create multiple pathways to achieve our goals. This makes us far more robust in the face of market volatility and unexpected disruptions.”

Investment/Exploration Value: Investing in building a diverse partner network and exploring alternative solutions within the ecosystem will de-risk our operations and create more agile supply chains and innovation pipelines.

From Adaptation & Evolution to “Future-Proofing Your Business through Continuous Learning & Agility”:

Business Language: “The market is constantly changing. A dynamic ecosystem allows us to continuously learn, adapt, and evolve at a pace that individual companies can’t match. By embracing experimentation and scaling successful adaptations quickly, we stay ahead of the curve and future-proof our business.”

Investment/Exploration Value: Investing in data analytics capabilities to monitor ecosystem trends and in agile experimentation frameworks will enable rapid response to market shifts and the early adoption of emerging technologies.

From Self-Organization & Emergence to “Unlocking Breakthrough Innovation & Unexpected Opportunities”:

Business Language: “By fostering an environment of autonomy and collaboration, we create the conditions for unexpected breakthroughs and the emergence of entirely new business models. We’re tapping into the collective creativity of the ecosystem, going beyond the limitations of our internal thinking.”

Investment/Exploration Value: Investing in platforms and initiatives that facilitate open collaboration and idea generation can lead to disruptive innovations and the discovery of unforeseen market opportunities.

From Hierarchy Based on Value Contribution to “Attracting Top Talent & Rewarding Impact”:

Business Language: “In a dynamic ecosystem, influence and leadership are earned through the value you bring. This attracts top talent who want to make a real impact and fosters a meritocratic environment where contributions are recognized and rewarded. This creates a powerful engine for attracting and retaining the best.”

Investment/Exploration Value: Investing in transparent performance metrics within the ecosystem and in recognition programs will attract high-value contributors and incentivize active participation.

So why are Dynamic Ecosystems needed to become the core?

The concept of Dynamic Ecosystems as the central element makes sense for several reasons:

Adaptability: Dynamic Ecosystems inherently embody the ability to respond and adapt quickly to changes, which is crucial in today’s fast-paced business environment

Catalyst for Innovation: By creating an environment that is constantly in flux, Dynamic Ecosystems can serve as a trigger for continuous innovation, pushing other ecosystem types to evolve and innovate

Responsive Framework: A dynamic core allows the entire Integrated Business Ecosystem Framework to be more responsive to market changes, technological advancements, and shifting customer needs.

It is viewing Dynamic Ecosystems as the intelligent, adaptive, and resilient core of future organizations, highlights their central role in driving innovation, flexibility, and sustainable growth.

The Call to Action:

“The old models of isolated growth are reaching their limits. Dynamic Ecosystems offer a fundamentally new way to build a more resilient, innovative, and ultimately more successful business”

The Concept for a Dynamic Ecosystem as the Core to the Interconnected Business Ecosystem framework has been a realization than makes it central

The time to explore these principles and strategically invest in building your ecosystem is now. Let’s move beyond incremental improvements and unlock exponential potential.

By framing the principles in terms of tangible business benefits like growth, resilience, innovation, and talent acquisition, and by highlighting the direct value of investment and exploration in each area, you begin to recognize the concept of Dynamic Ecosystems does resonate with those progressive business leaders and motivate them to take action. The key is to connect the “wisdom” to bottom-line results and strategic advantage.

Having Dynamic Ecosystems in the core it moves away from static, hierarchical models towards a more fluid and responsive interconnected framework that better reflects the realities of today’s business landscape.

The post Are you ready to explore Dynamic Ecosystem Principles as Business Leaders? first appeared on Building Your Innovation & Ecosystem Intelligence.

Are we seeing a growing influence of how different technologies are forming and shaping Business Ecosystems? The influence of AI and Machine Learning,Blockchain and Decentralized Technologies, Digital Twins and Simulations, Edge Computing and IoT, Platform technology and use of API’s in Marketplaces all shape our growing needs.

My question is “did technology lead to ecosystems or did ecosystems need technology to realize vision or outcomes?

It is not simple but rather a dynamic and evolving interplay.

it’s a dynamic interplay. Sometimes, a groundbreaking technology emerges that creates new possibilities and enables the formation of entirely new ecosystems that weren’t previously conceivable. Other times, a clear vision for a more interconnected and efficient way of doing things drives the development and adoption of specific technologies to realize that vision.

The best way to explore this question of what comes first is to break down some examples to illustrate how technology and business ecosystems influence each other:

Did Technology Lead to Ecosystems? Some Examples:

Platform Technology and APIs: The advent of robust platform technologies and standardized Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) has been a significant driver in the formation of ecosystems. Think of companies like Amazon Web Services (AWS). Their comprehensive suite of cloud services and well-documented APIs allowed countless independent software vendors (ISVs) and businesses to build their own services and products on top of AWS infrastructure. This created a vast ecosystem of interconnected solutions, where AWS provides the foundational technology, and partners contribute specialized capabilities

Similarly, the APIs provided by social media platforms like Twitter (now X) and Facebook (now Meta) enabled developers to create third-party applications, expanding the functionality and reach of the core platform and fostering an ecosystem of related services.

Mobile and App Stores: The development of powerful mobile operating systems (like iOS and Android) and the concept of centralized app stores revolutionized how software is distributed and consumed. These platforms provided the technological infrastructure for a massive ecosystem of developers to create and offer applications directly to users. The ease of access and the built-in marketplace fostered a vibrant ecosystem where innovation could flourish.

How about Blockchain and Decentralized Technologies: While still evolving, blockchain technology has the potential to enable entirely new types of decentralized ecosystems. For example, Decentralized Finance (DeFi) is emerging as an alternative financial system built on blockchain, allowing for peer-to-peer lending, borrowing, and trading without traditional intermediaries. The technology itself enables the creation of these new ecosystems.

Did Ecosystems Need Technology to Realize Vision or Outcomes?

Supply Chain Optimization: The vision of a highly efficient and transparent global supply chain has long existed. However, it’s the advancements in Edge Computing and IoT (Internet of Things) that are making this vision a reality. IoT sensors can track goods in real-time, providing data to edge computing devices for immediate analysis and action. This data can then be shared across the ecosystem of suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers, leading to better forecasting, reduced waste, and faster delivery times. The need for seamless information flow across a complex ecosystem drove the adoption and development of these technologies.

Smart Cities: The concept of interconnected urban environments aimed at improving quality of life, sustainability, and efficiency requires the integration of various technologies. AI and Machine Learning are crucial for analyzing the vast amounts of data generated by sensors and other systems. Platform technology and APIs are needed to connect different city services (transportation, energy, public safety). Digital Twins and Simulations allow city planners to model and optimize urban development. The ecosystem vision of a smart city necessitates the deployment and integration of these advanced technologies.

Personalized Healthcare: The desire for more tailored and proactive healthcare solutions is driving the development and adoption of technologies like AI and Machine Learning for diagnostics and treatment recommendations, wearable IoT devices for continuous health monitoring, and secure platform technologies for data sharing among patients, doctors, and researchers. The ecosystem goal of a more patient-centric and effective healthcare system relies heavily on these technological advancements

The answer is this dynamic Interplay:

Ultimately, it’s a dynamic interplay as I have already mentioned above.

Think of it as a feedback loop:

Technology enables: A new technology emerges, offering novel capabilities.

Ecosystem vision forms: Businesses and individuals see the potential of this technology to create new connections, efficiencies, or value.

Ecosystem develops: Participants build solutions and services leveraging the technology, forming an interconnected ecosystem.

Ecosystem needs drive further technology development: The evolving needs and challenges within the ecosystem spur further innovation and refinement of existing technologies or the development of new ones.

In conclusion, while certain foundational technologies have undeniably paved the way for the creation of many modern business ecosystems, the specific needs and aspirations of these ecosystems often drive the adoption, integration, and further development of technology.

It’s a continuous cycle of innovation and adaptation where technology and the vision for interconnected value creation are deeply intertwined.

Ultimately, it’s a symbiotic relationship where technology enables the emergence of ecosystems, and the evolving demands of these ecosystems, in turn, fuel further technological innovation and refinement in a continuous feedback loop.

We are in a world of re-calibrating our business, where to invest and who to partner with. Firstly we have to cut-away much of our existing approaches and thinking of how we organize and operate.

Opening our minds to the alternative of being in a collaborative network, sharing in value and worth.

Having a reliable network to plug into and exchange views in confidence and speedily is vitally important. Many of those advisors we relied upon for economic prediction, (banks, consultancies, think tanks, even prediction models) providing their advice was prevalent on stability. They are at present as much at sea deciphering future direction as the rest of us.

What you can revert too and draw in a better level of confidence and understanding comes from the value and worth of your own trusted network. Who we know, who we work with and trust is so valuable in these volatile times.

Building your Business Ecosystem is a need to do, more than ever.

Ecosystem building takes time but it offers many advantages. Here are a few that need to be evaluated in how and where we go forward

1. Ecosystems have a transformative power to shift organizational thinking and how to operate. That new way of doing future business needs to be built on risk mitigation and the wisdom of the networked crowd

2. Adaptability and Resilience within (highly) dynamic markets needs diversity, learning and navigating uncertainty. Where are you in developing these critical capabilities

3. Ecosystem Mapping, Sensing and Fluid Strategic Positioning need to be central to shape thinking and provide insights to the dynamic markets we are managing within today. How can organizations leverage these, through highly collaborative and co-creating approaches

4. Building out our Governance and Collaborative frameworks need to be robust in design and knowing what are effective ones needs reworking in changing market conditions

5. Accelerating partnership dynamics and value-sharing models offer stronger foundations for managing

There are many compelling talking points by exploring business ecosystems. Find out about a comprehensive approach to ecosystem-driven innovation, adaptability through collective approaches to reduce complexity and change the feeling of “being disrupted” into being a future “disruptor”

We need to be more proactive in our navigation for complexity and disruption, it is highly relevant and valuable for organizations seeking to future-proof their operations in radically different ways- more interconnected and interdependent on building an Ecosystem that actively shapes market dynamics differently within their future, collaboratively.
